KANDOSHIN is more than just a combat science/education or a fine tone form or art of the so dalled MARTIAL ARTS - possibly base or hast it roots from the CHRONICLES OF VIOLENCE or MAN'S FEELING CONCERNING THE ARTS OF SAFTY OR THE THOUGHT OF MAN ON HIS TROUBLE FILLED UNIVERSE. Kandoshin is an exercise/expression of the TRUE SELF and the GIFTY OF WISDOM from Heaven and it suppases the history of FEAR, LAW, which result to violent as seen or known to our SPECIES or our KIND; IS THE COMBAT EXPRESSION OF THE TRUE EDUCATION OF WHAT'S FIGHTING/VIOLENCE IN MAN and the great courage of the HISTORIC GREATEST WARRIOR - the world have never seen - NIMROD. To know KDS, YOU first search YOURSELF - this include the universe, the though of MAN. You find that TRUTH lie within us: since the TRUTH shall set you free. It's the science of wisdom given to the FIRST MAN from GOD - toenable him conqure the earth and rule over all other things arround him. Today think and build yourself - the spirit in you and achieve that set purpose - therefore, remove FEAR from you - the REAL YOU and embrase LOVE - in all things.
This is the MYSTERY OF KANDOSHIN and KDS itself, the science or art of FREE STYLE MARTIAL ARTS or KARATEDO system.
As man develop from Doshi to Hanshi so also combat evolve from expression of physical violence to attunement and achievement of spiritual harmony just as from Nimrod to Jesus Christ. (Nimrod is the first to practice combat as a science and also teach martial art. Nimrod was also an African who learnt the science of forging weapons from higher beings).
At the highest level, the opponent gives way to the superior warrior just as darkness gives way to light so that violence is replaced by harmony. This is how you can defeat your enemy without harming them – the power of LOVE. The Christ force cannot be resisted but rather it is in all things and over all things. It is that which unifies the universe.
Kandoshin is freestyle because it is a science that explores the Christ force – the source of all wisdom and truth; so that the final destiny of the Shinka (one who has mastered the art and discovered Christ in himself) is FREEDOM. True Freedom cancel out all fear. He who is not for us is against us. Those against us must surrender to us. Those who surrender to us become part of us. So CHRIST is ALL IN ALL – the Head of the Church. Hence the revealed system called KANDOSHIN i.e. KAN (SCHOOL) DO (WAY) SHIN (CHRIST/TRUTH/REALITY/FREEDOM/LOVE).
Therefore Kandoshin is more than martial art, religion or academic practise – Kandoshin is a manifestation of a natural stage in man’s spiritual evolution towards mankind Divine destiny which is revealed towards the end of the age, as all the prophets have testified. As the Book of Daniel state in Ch 12 v 4, "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."

KYOHAN – RETURN TO TRADITION?
So-called 'modern' karate claims to be scientific yet what has been exported to many western countries is nothing more than ORIENTAL AEROBICS lacking true spiritual power. This is why so many masters are 'fake' even though they spent many years studying the art. Yet if you do not perform karate kata according to their pattern you can NEVER hope to win any competition. THEREFORE MODERN KARATE COMPETITION HAS DONE THE GREATEST DAMAGE TO BUDO.
It is now almost impossible to find true practitioners who practice true karate NOT FOR GLORY OF COMPETITION or MONEY or EGO but who practice karate as a preservation of tradition and a science that brings HEALING TO SELF and TO THE WORLD. Where is the code of BUSHIDO in modern tournament with all the POLITICS??? Has the award of rank now been commercialised? Is everything is now by MONEY?
I thank ALMIGHTY GOD that my first taste of karate came through KANDOSHIN. In those days, it was called WOFAS RYU and there was a marked difference in the KATA of SHIHAN HAPPY JOHN and all other so-called master practitioners. This difference was due to the loyalty to the ancient Okinawan ShuriTe, TomariTe and NahaTe systems embodying both principles of Shorin and Shorei. According to these systems (which are closer to ANCIENT CHINA than to Japan) POWER is FUNDAMENTAL.
POWER creates SPEED and from SPEED comes GRACE and BEAUTY.
But in today’s modern karate the principle has been turned upside down. The Focus is on Beauty, Grace and Speed LACKING POWER. That is why in ancient times it took many years to master one kata but today people are practicing many kata just for competition or rank but they cannot apply them to real street fights. So much time is spent studying BUNKAI OF KATA when BUNKAI IS GENERATED BY KATA and THERE IS NO FIXED BUNKAI ONLY SHINKYOTAI.
Many ancient athlete practised martial art on their own by manual left behind dead teacher or in the forest etc. and they became great fighters BUT TODAY it is a political manipulation to create a modern karate that nobody can understand without endless teachers and seminars who seek money, political power and control.
The last time I trained with Soke Happy John was in 1999 and 7 YEARS LATER I am still active THEREFORE Kancho Happy's Teaching is EFFECTIVE. Kandoshin is not political and a student can improve technically if he follows the basics. When an art is true it does not bring you in bondage to your coach, rather it sets you FREE. It is no wonder that KANCHO HAPPY himself trained for many years on his own and became even better than his equals. This is the ideology behind SHU-HA-RI.
What today is being calling scientific is actually based on WESTERN RESEARCH SCIENCE which fails to take the SPIRITUAL REALITY OF MAN into account. A Technique CANNOT be scientific if it is not SPIRITUAL but a SPIRITUAL Technique is ALWAYS scientific. To be SPIRITUAL means to embody every aspect of HUMAN EXISTENCE i.e. PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, HISTORICAL, CULTURAL, PHILOSOPHICAL, METAPHYSICAL, MORAL and ETERNAL.
The karate of Soke Happy John is Spiritual. The Karate of Masutatsu Oyama is Spiritual. Modern Sport Karate is not. Kumite and Kata as it is practiced at modern tournament is not spiritual. It is easy. SPIRITUAL IS ALWAYS HARD BECAUSE IT IS TRUTH.
We originally practice our kata with low stance which you cannot do if you do not have strength in the legs. Therefore speed and balance is only developed after years of practice AND IT IS VERY BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL. Modern kata is like "example" kata which is good for show but does not have power and one day karate kata may become like taekwondo kata or 'standing' kata. They forget that even during application (bunkai) deadly combat techniques are executed when the centre of gravity is low. Note the difference between Juijitsu/Atemijitsu or Kickboxing and Muay Thai.
It is this spiritual principles that enable athlete of ryu-ei-ryu to demonstrate exceptional kata so also in my personal training, I find that practicing 'modern' kata does not help me to improve my ability so I have continued to practice kata in the ancient way which also reveal to me many bunkai. I utilize full stances which also require flexibity and then strength to lift of the ground. When kata is performed properly you will find that no kata is simple. Many hours in the gym lifting weights and training to develop breath power are neccessary. Your technique must be perfect i.e. it must be realistic and effective.
Shorin ryu teaches that not always all kata end in the same place though the distance is never much (usually about a step). This is probably because the force of attack is GENUINE (like in a real fight) and your attention is on EFFECTIVENESS not KATA JUDGES. A good block is as good as a strike and your tai sabaki must be real. These movements if practised for effectiveness, will sometimes displace you until you become a MASTER of FORCE, TIMING and DISTANCE then you can choose to stop wherever you like. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.
THEREFORE IS KARATE NOT ETERNAL IF THE WAY KYOHAN IS PRACTICED BY ITOSU DOES NOT CHANGE EVEN TODAY? BUT MANY FEDERATIONS HAVE MADE MANY CHANGES or MODIFICATIONS different from what was originally taught. WHY?
I AM HAPPY THAT IN KANDOSHIN WE PRACTICE ALL VERSIONS OF KATA IRRESPECTIVE OF STYLE. HOWEVER, A TRUE KANDOSHIN KATA IS AN EFFECTIVE KATA WHERE THE BUNKAI IS SELF-EVIDENT AND DEADLY.

A BRIEF LOOK AT BODY PHYSIOLOGY DURING KATA
KNEES
The ancient karate practice remain true to it's Shaolin roots by employing low stances which require greater flexibility and strength. MODERN KARATE claims that these low stances are not good for the body because of high risk of injury to the knees. Except for expert practitioner, the ancient kata also look slow and abrupt (i.e.the stances do not flow), the feet are heavy on the ground.
SPIRITUAL KARATE on the other hand helps to develop PHYSICAL STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE because by FAITH (i.e. proper MENTAL ATTITUDE) injury is avoided. The Knees become stronger and with continued practice, the athlete can perform kata on different surfaces at the right speed creating FLOWING BEAUTY.
I observed that in many kata, the more technical stances (i.e. they require more balance or endurance) are often CHANGED for easier stances. For example in Jion, Neko dachi and Kiba dachi are changed for Zenkutsu in some styles. What is the reason for this? Techniques like Kage tsuki are not fully extended and only demonstrated fully in bunkai. Why is this?
I think there is a very real danger when a student learns movements from somebody very old and does not have the insight to identify restrictions created by age and will "COPY" the technique instead of APPLYING WHAT IS EFFECTIVE/REALISTIC. Could sport karate be perhaps forcing young athletes to perform OLD MAN'S kata?
BUNKAI
The terms toridai and himitsu are used to refer to techniques not readily seen to the casual observer and hidden techniques within kata. However, those techniques that are readily seen, should they not be applied effectively? If techniques in the kata are not performed correctly will they be effective in REALITY SITUATION. Therefore REALITY should be taught.
WESTERN SCIENCE DOES NOT HAVE SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE THAT IS WHY IT CANNOT OVERCOME PHYSICAL INJURY IN TRAINING AND THEREFORE PRODUCE WEAK KARATE METHOD.
ANCIENT METHOD RELIES ON FAITH WHICH BRING ABOUT SUPERNATURAL STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE FROM BEYOND BECAUSE MAN IS A BEING COMPOSED OF SPIRITUAL ENERGY.
BRAIN OR MIND
The human brain is composed of neurons which transfer all information which controls the body. This information passes from the MIND and end in the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM from which the muscles are activated.
THE HUMAN BRAIN IS PHYSICAL.
THE SOUL OF MAN IS CREATED BY THE INTERFACE OF SPIRIT LIFE AND THE PHYSICAL BODY. The physical body has a brain and when this is combined with Spirit then the mind appears. However, there is always a conflict between MIND and SPIRIT because the origin of the mind is a by-product of the neurological processes in the brain which is flesh.

1 Corinthians 15 39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
15 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
Galatians 5 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
The purpose of these references is to show that WESTERN SCIENCE HAS FAILED TO UNDERSTAND MAN BECAUSE SPORT PSYCHOLOGY AND PSYCHIATRY DO NOT INVESTIGATE THE ROLE OF SPIRIT.
The enmity of mind with Spirit is derived from its origin in the material universe.

From the above reference you can see the following;
In the beginning was darkness
Waters were in the darkness
The Dry Ground came from under the waters in darkness
Man physical boy was formed from the dust of the dry ground (whose origin is in darkness)
Dust (man's flesh) is the food of the serpent
Man's physical body shall return to dust (but is this the end of man?)
A TRUE MARTIAL ARTIST SHOULD KNOW THAT A MAN IS MORE THAN HIS PHYSICAL BODY. THERE IS A NON-PHYSICAL ASPECT OF MAN. THE PHYSICAL ASPECT IS TEMPORAL.
The first non-physical aspect is the MIND which origin is in darkness.

TO OVERCOME THE MIND, ONE MUST TRAIN SPIRITUALLY AND DEMONSTRATE "MIND OVER MATTER". WHEN YOU PRACTICE SPIRITUAL KARATE YOU OVERCOME PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS AND INJURY AND THEREBY ABLE TO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE

THEREFORE MODERN SPORTS KARATE FAILS TO ACHIEVE THE TRUE AIM OF BUDO BECAUSE IT DOES NOT ENCOURAGE THE PRACTITIONER TO RISE ABOVE PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS AND PAIN. THIS IS CAUSED BY MANY COUNTRIES WHICH HAVE LEGISLATION AGAINST SO-CALLED 'DANGEROUS SPORTS' BUT HOW CAN KARATE REMAIN BUDO OR MARTIAL/WARRIOR ART IF IT IS NOT DANGEROUS? MAS OYAMA AND MANY MASTERS BEFORE HIM ACHIEVED ALOT BY EXPOSURE TO GREAT DANGER. MY PERSONAL KARATE ABILITY HAS ONLY BEEN ABLE TO DEVELOP THROUGH MANY RISKS, PAIN AND DANGER AND NOW I AM IN MY THIRTIES AND STRONGER AND FITTER AND EVEN MORE FLEXIBLE THAN I WAS IN MY TWENTIES. AS A SENIOR INSTRUCTOR, I AM ASHAMED TO TEACH SO CALLED MODERN SPORT KARATE BECAUSE IT IS INEFFECTIVE. STUDENTS MUST BE TRAINED TO DEVELOP THEIR SPIRITUAL MIND SO THAT THEY CAN OVERCOME GREATER OBSTACLES IN FUTURE. THE WORLD LEGISLATION MUST CHANGE SO THAT FULL-CONTACT KARATE IS ALLOWED IN AMATEUR COMPETITION JUST LIKE BOXING. THE MONOPOLY OF KATA BY JAPANESE ARTS KAI (ORGANISATIONS) MUST ALSO GIVE WAY SO OTHER TRUE KARATE SCHOOLS CAN EMERGE AND DEMONSTRATE THEIR OWN SYSTEMS.
FINALLY, TO BE EFFECTIVE, KARATE MUST BE SCIENTIFIC HOWEVER THIS SHOULD NOT BE ACCORDING TO WESTERN SCIENCE BECAUSE WESTERN SCIENCE FAILS TO TAKE MANY THINGS INTO ACCOUNT. KARATE SHOULD BE SPIRITUAL AND EMBODY THE WISDOM AND SCIENCE OF THE ANCIENTS. HIGH CIVILIZATIONS WHOSE PRE-HISTORIC ORIGINS WERE FORGED IN AFRICA.
